TWIB’s Elon James White is no stranger to trolls, he’s been tackling American racial politics for years. Recently his feed was graced with this tweet:
@elonjames Nobody cares about Ferguson anymore. Your 15 minutes of fame are over.
— Holden Caulfield (@lebanon_levi) August 26, 2014
He couldn’t stand idly by while a Twitter troll aimed his ire at the people of Ferguson, a community who just laid to rest a teenager who’s killer is still free. Rather than waste time arguing with a bigot, Elon reached out to see just how much and why #WeCareAboutFerguson. The responses came pouring in by the hundreds:
#WeCareAboutFerguson Because when we stop caring, we become complicit in the next murder. @elonjames — Jeremy Whitley (@jrome58) August 26, 2014
I care about Ferguson bc my soul aches, and my heart, mind & love for young people & their future won’t let me STOP! #WeCareAboutFerguson — Shanterra McBride (@shanterraMcB) August 26, 2014
#WeCareAboutFerguson because that could easily be me, you, my loved ones, or yours. — Ezekiel Copeland (@withEeezzze) August 26, 2014
#WeCareAboutFerguson because unless you wear a uniform or sign the checks, We ARE ALL #Ferguson — ABsiNtHE FaERie (@lilmeanfraggle) August 26, 2014
#wecareaboutferguson because the system is broken & if we don’t care, if we don’t think and talk and protest, then nothing will ever change — sasha (@alasallama) August 26, 2014
#WeCareAboutFerguson because justice shouldn’t be a privilege. #BlackLivesMatter — SexPositiveParent (@airialclark) August 26, 2014
#WeCareAboutFerguson bc a family buried their child today, mourned in front of the country, still have to fight for him to be seen as human. — Grace (@graceishuman) August 26, 2014
That’s a lot of caring! Even the mecca of hashtags paid their respects:
@elonjames #WeCareAboutFerguson at @twitter pic.twitter.com/l6RBdS49At — Jill Wetzler (@JillWetzler) August 26, 2014
People cared outside of the US, too.
.@elonjames I live in Vancouver, BC and I care. #WeCareAboutFerguson.
— Jane Halton (@janehalton) August 26, 2014
People not only cared but they were angry:
#WeCareAboutFerguson because somehow the officer who murdered Michael Brown has raised 235k by supporters and that’s disgusting and angering — Kiersta (@Kiersta) August 26, 2014
#WeCareAboutFerguson Because they’re still killing him. Mike Brown is buried and the news and police are still killing him @elonjames — Jeremy Whitley (@jrome58) August 26, 2014
In a few hours one thing was perfectly clear:
Obviously #WeCareAboutFerguson its the number 3 trending topic in the entire US. pic.twitter.com/XtB3pUSRr1

As cathartic as it is to share our emotions and tell one another how much we care, the most important thing we can do it this:
So yeah. #WeCareAboutFerguson. But for the love of God make sure you do everything you can do to show it. Use your space & support. — Elon James White (@elonjames) August 26, 2014
