Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson released a video statement apologizing to the Brown Family and  Ferguson protesters for the handling of the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent treatment of Ferguson residents and protesters. Jackson specifically apologized for the handling of Brown’s body: “Please know that the investigating officers meant no disrespect to the Brown family, to the African-American community or the people [in the neighborhood where Brown was shot]. They were simply trying to do their jobs,” Jackson said.

Jackson also made a point of singling out the peaceful protesters. “The right of the people to peacefully assemble is what the police are here to protect. If anyone who was peacefully exercising that right is upset and angry, I feel responsible and I’m sorry,” he said.

According to CNN, Jackson will be taking part in an “apology tour” where he will address those in the community directly in an attempt to make amends.

Judging from Twitter, responses are mixed at best.
